Music Education Resources for Students, Teachers, and Families
If you are looking to maximize learning at home, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is committed to supporting you with free videos, resources, and activities that explore the arts, so closed schools and social distancing doesn’t mean losing access to music education.
Educational Concert Webcasts and Resource Guides Our Classroom Edition webcasts of Educational Concerts are available to stream for free any time. These concerts are great tools for students to learn critical listening skills while exploring orchestral music, music history, and composers. Each concert has an accompanying Resource Guide full of lessons and activities based on NAfME and Common Core standards. For example, check out our 2018 performance of A Symphony of Science and learn about how physics and anatomy combine to create music.YouTube and DSO Replay In addition, our YouTube channel and DSO Replay have tons of full concerts and concert excerpts. Students can listen to pre-concert talks with conductors to learn about the music and its history, then listen for what they learned in the corresponding DSO performance. Pinterest Head to our Education Resources board on Pinterest for great worksheets, infographics, and activities families can explore together. We will be expanding our resources each week, so keep checking back for new materials! The DSO’s Education Team For any questions on how to integrate music into home learning, our Community and Learning team is happy to help!
