FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                       May 24, 2018

Dearborn Public Library will once again implement guidelines for students during final weeks of school, June 4-15

DEARBORN, Mich. – To accommodate busy parents but to still make Dearborn Public Library a welcoming environment for all who visit, the Dearborn Library Commission has once again approved temporary safety guidelines for all three libraries, in effect only during the busy student study period between June 4 and June 15.

These guidelines require a parent to claim responsibility for their minor children’s actions while they study at the library June 4-15.. The parent needs to sign an agreement only once during the dates of June 4-15, and the library will not require the parent to remain in the building.

These guidelines apply to Bryant Branch, Esper Branch, and Henry Ford Centennial Library.

More details are below:

  • Between June 4-15, all students under the age of 18 are required to have a parent come to the library to sign an agreement of responsibility. Parents need not remain in the building with their children, but certainly can if they choose.
  • The agreement states that both the parent and student have read the Library Code of Conduct and will abide by library rules. Should the student be banned for violating this Code, the parent agrees to take responsibility and to pick up the student from the library within 20 minutes.
  • Staff posted near the public entrance doors will check IDs of both the parent and student, and will hand out and accept completed agreements.
  • Please remember that the Dearborn Public Library requires that all students under the age of 18 must show school ID or other valid photo identification upon entering the building. The library requires proper identification so that library staff can take appropriate measures should any issues arise.

The goal of the Dearborn Public Library is to provide a positive and quiet atmosphere for all who visit to use library resources. These guidelines are in accordance with advice from the Dearborn Police Department and have approval from the Library Commission, the Mayor’s Office, and the City Council.
