Hello Parents and Students!
My name is Janet Hughes, and I am the PTA Reflections Chair for the 2017-2018 school year. PTA Reflections is a national cultural arts program open to students in all grades and of all abilities. Each year thousands of students across the country reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
This year’s theme is Within Reach. While Reflections entries are judged at the local, district, and state levels, and awards are given to the finalists, all students will be recognized for participating. The entries must explore the theme Within Reach and will be judged on the following:
Interpretation: How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.
Creativity: How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
Technique: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.
The deadline for this year’s entries is December 1st.
Each teacher will receive copies of the rules and entry form to distribute to interested students. I can also provide additional copies and any kind of support a student needs. Parents and students are welcome to text or email me with questions.
